You Guessed It: A Movie Based On The Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard Trial Saga Is Currently In The Works

The highly publicized trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard is being made into movie for streaming on Tubi.

While you may not have heard of Tubi before (more on the looming Streaming War HERE), they’re the service currently behind the movie based on the real-life courtroom drama featuring Johnny Depp and Amber Heard Saga, titled Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial.

The highly publicized defamation trial saw both actors slug it out in the court room for seven straight weeks before the jury reach a unanimous decision in favor of Depp awarding him $10 million USD (of the $50 million USD claim) in compensatory damages and $5 million USD in punitive damages.

Having personally followed the trial and having seen all the theatrics that went down while both sides argued their case, one thing was pretty certain – it was going to be made into a film. What we didn’t know however, is that it was going to be this soon.

In what comes off as an attempt to cease the opportunity caused by all the trial drama, the free streaming site Tubi has fast tracked the production of Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial which will see the film depicting the tumultuous relationship between the Depp and Heard in and out of the court debut way sooner than people ever expected – September 30.

The film directed by Sara Lohman (The Reunion, Secrets in The Woods) and written by Guy Nicolucci of The Daily Show will star Mark Hapka as Depp, Megan Davis as Heard, Melissa Marty as Depp’s attorney Camille Vasquez, and Mary Carrig as Heard’s attorney Elaine Bredehoft.

In a statement regarding the speed of its release Tubi’s chief content officer stated that the film was quickly developed “to capture a timely take on a story that became part of the cultural zeitgeist, painting a unique picture of what millions watched play out in the headlines over the summer.”

With the media attention surrounding the Depp vs. Heard trial and considering it’s a free streaming service, Tubi can count on lots of viewers trooping in to watch when the film drops which seems to be the ultimate goal. Considering how fast all this is happening, it’ll probably be best to lower expectations for the film and simply hope to be entertained.
