Why was Cardi B sentenced?

American rapper Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, known professionally as Cardi B was found guilty on two counts of indictment and sentenced to 15 days community services on Thursday Sep. 15.

With the news making the rounds on blogs and social media, here’s all you need to know about the WAP and Bodak Yellow rapper’s sentence and what transpired before it.

  • According to prosecutors, Cardi B and two others allegedly fought and assaulted a bartender by throwing drink, glass bottles and other objects.
  • Bartender reportedly had cuts on her legs and bruises on her feet.
  • Incident occurred at Angels Gentleman’s Club, a strip club the Queens district of New York in 2018 and was first tabled in court in 2019, with Cardi B rejecting the appeal that would have had reduced consequences.
  • 12 charges were originally tabled against Cardi B but 10 were dismissed.
  • Cardi was found guilty of the remaining two- third-degree assault and second-degree reckless endangerment.
  • What Cardi B has said: “These moments don’t define me, and they are not reflective of who I am now.” “Part of growing up and maturing is being accountable for your actions.”

According to Cardi B’s statement, it appears the rapper has taken the sentence in good faith and will proceed to doing her community service. The verdict also included a three-year order of protection for the two victims, according to the DA’s office.
